Four children and five pedestrians under the age of fourteen died in road accidents this week

Four children and five pedestrians were among 14 people killed in car crashes on the island during the week ending Friday, May 17.

This marks one of the most bloody weeks on the nation’s roads since the start of the year.

The latest statistics were released on Friday by the Road Safety Unit (RSU), based in the Island Traffic Authority.

The deaths this week include two male students from Titchfield High School in Portland, a 12-year-old boy who was hit by a Subara Impreza car on the New Lands main road in Portmore, St Catherine, and a 14-year-old girl who was killed along with her father and another man in a head-on collision on Bay Road in Westmoreland while on their way to catch crabs.

The fatalities include three drivers of passenger cars, two passengers of commercial vehicles and two passengers of public passenger cars.

As of Friday, a total of 161 people had died in 138 fatal accidents. The RSU says the number of fatal accidents has increased by one percent, while the number of fatal accidents has decreased by five percent compared to the same period in 2023.

So far, men are responsible for 86 percent of all fatalities this year, while women account for 14 percent.

Most fatalities occurred on the west side of the island, with the parishes of Westmoreland, Trelawny, St. James and Hanover responsible for 28 percent of all traffic fatalities this year. Portland, St Mary and St Ann account for 19 per cent and St Elizabeth, Manchester and Clarendon for 20 per cent.

Florida Panthers knock Bruins out of playoffs – NBC 6 South Florida

Florida Panthers coach Paul Maurice watched his team make one breakaway after another and still manage to knock off the Boston Bruins in six games.

So he didn’t want to overanalyze the second straight trip to the Eastern Conference finals.

“Honestly, it’s part of the luck,” Maurice said Friday night after Florida beat Boston 2-1 to win the second-round playoff series. “We conceded four ‘A’ chances in the second period, but we were lucky they didn’t go in.

“And that’s how it felt on the bench: it didn’t feel like I was in control; it didn’t feel methodical,” Maurice said. “Everyone had a plan, and then they tried to punch each other in the face for the next six games.”

Defenseman Gustav Forsling scored the decisive goal with 1:33 remaining, and Sergei Bobrovsky stopped 22 shots to help the Panthers knock the Bruins out of the playoffs for the second straight year.

The Panthers advanced to the Eastern Conference finals, where they will play the New York Rangers. Game 1 is Wednesday night at Madison Square Garden.

“I do not do that. I don’t do anything with that,” says Maurice. “I need a day off.”

Anton Lundell scored for the Panthers, setting up the match winner when his shot was deflected into the left side of the net. Forsling came in and beat Jeremy Swayman on the short side.

“I didn’t see it coming in. I just saw someone else respond. It was great,” said Forsling, who has scored 10 goals this season, one of which was a match-winner. “Normally I’m not the guy who scores the winning goal; I’m trying to defend myself. It’s nice to help your team win, but I’ll stick to defense.”

Florida won all three games in Boston this series and six straight playoff games at the TD Garden. The Panthers also defeated the record-breaking Bruins last year on their way to the Stanley Cup Final, where they lost to the Las Vegas Golden Knights.

“I would pay money to see Boston and Florida play. If we played 82 games, there would be nothing left of these guys. But it is difficult and fast, sometimes very skilled and sometimes brutal and violent,” said Maurice. “It all belongs to the best part of hockey, the Bruins series.”

Swayman stopped 26 shots for the Bruins. Pavel Zacha scored to give Boston a 1-0 lead late in the first period, but it was unable to beat Bobrovsky again. In the series, the Panthers defeated the Bruins 198-135.

Florida tied the score with seven minutes left in the second after a scramble in front of the Boston net that left DeBrusk on the ice. Lundell dove into the slot and swept the puck past Swayman.

With about three minutes left, Aleksander Barkov blocked a David Pastrnak shot on a wide-open net.

“Do you want to talk about the highs and lows of emotions on the couch? That is a gaping net and a legitimate block,” said Maurice. “In the end we score the goal. It’s a bit of chaos down there. … So it was quite a rollercoaster.”

Boston missed several opportunities to extend its lead in the second period, including a Pastrnak breakaway in the opening seconds.

“If you look at the Florida-Boston games, there are too many possible inflection points for me to be so arrogant as to sit here and say, ‘well, this is how we did it.’ I have no idea,” Maurice said. “You could take the last six wins we have and we could lose them all.”

Will season 2 of The 8 Show happen and what could it be about?

Nasty game shows have always had a place in film and TV, and The 8 Tone is another offering featuring eight poor saps, trapped in an eight-room studio, trying to win a share of a life-changing sum of money. Given the obvious similarities in the premise, it’s clear that Netflix hopes to capitalize on the overwhelming success of Squid game here, but The 8 Tone Season 2 is unlikely given the limited series designation.

However, that doesn’t stop us from speculating. Finally, Squid game itself also started as a limited series, so I’m taking a chance on guessing what a second season might consist of if the stars align for the K-drama.

Season 2 is possible if the eight shows get more viewing hours

There is no official confirmation of a second season The 8 Tone as I write this, and things will have to change for this to happen.

The unfortunate reality is that Netflix knows exactly what a show needs to do to get renewed, and viewing hours are an important factor. It seems to me that they were hoping for someone else Squid gamewhich is understandable since that show became a global phenomenon, but its success is almost impossible to replicate, and it seems naive to try.

Netflix revealed in 2021 that the show had streamed 1.65 billion hours in just four weeks after its release, which was 2.6 times more than Bridgerton. The 8 game It seems unlikely at this point that this has come close.

This does not mean The 8 Tone may not have its own more conservative measures of success, but Netflix tends not to share these things. For now, it’s safer to assume that The 8 Tone will remain a one-off, limited series unless it performs far beyond expectations.

The second season could introduce new participants

If there is a second season, and I wouldn’t mind watching one, it would probably take the high-concept premise and develop it for the audience, and it seems like a new batch of housemates would be an obvious way forward would be.

From a storytelling perspective, there’s no reason why The 8 Tone Season 2 couldn’t deviate from the rules and regulations of the first run and presented a similar idea, but with new games and challenges. It makes sense that the producers would look at season 1 and see what worked and what didn’t, and then play to what the subscribers want.

As we have described in detail in our ending explained article, the first season wraps up the story in a relatively sensible manner, with few topics that could be picked up in a sequel outside of the game itself. It’s also worth mentioning that Money game, the webtoon the show is based on got a sequel titled Cake gamethat could easily serve as the basis for a second season.

Critical and audience reactions so far

Well, it’s a mixed bag of reviews out there, and despite what I think is a good starting point, here on Ready Steady Cut the show has only achieved 2 out of 5 stars, with the review states:

The 8 Tone is the Wish version of Squid gamea much worse and meaner show that misunderstands its own point.

Collider are also on the same page, making the Squid game comparison and pointing out the underdevelopment of the characters and the missteps of humor.

South China Morning Mail starts positively in their assessment, but despite their enthusiasm they have to conclude that:

The 8 Tone is very stylish and makes for compulsive viewing, thanks to its bold stakes and constant surprises, but it all falls apart if you think about it too hard.

Unfortunately, it seems that if the reviews are to be believed, the show missed its mark, and if I had to guess, I’d say this is a one-off.

It all comes down to this and the New York Knicks will be fighting to keep their season alive this coming Sunday.

That’s when they’ll face the Indiana Pacers one more time in a highly anticipated Game 7 of the Eastern Conference semifinals.

These two teams have been in this situation before in NBA history, but it has been a very long time since they faced off in Game 7.

Some people believe the Knicks have the advantage because they have home court advantage, but Jalen Brunson isn’t taking anything for granted.

Speaking to NBA TV, Brunson said: “It’s not just given because it’s at home. We get to go out there and play and earn it.

At this point it is very clear that both teams need all the help they can get.

The raucous crowd at Madison Square Garden will certainly give the Knicks a boost of energy, but will it be enough?

When this series started, some people thought from the beginning that New York would have a clear advantage.

But the Pacers hung around and scored some excellent wins, including a dominant victory on Friday night.

Their defensive skills have been criticized time and time again throughout the regular season, but they have shown that they can go far in the playoffs if they can shoot really well and make some impressive stops.

The Knicks would like to win this game at home, making their fans happy and setting the stage for a showdown with the Boston Celtics in the Eastern Conference Finals.

But they know this is going to be a very tough competition and they are ready for it.

Tennessee women’s tennis advances to the Final Four for the first time since 2002

play

Tennessee women’s tennis will play in the NCAA Final Four for the first time since 2002.

The No. 16 seed Lady Vols upset No. 8 seed UCLA in a 4-3 win Friday night in Stillwater, Oklahoma. UT is the lowest seed to reach the semifinals since the 64-team era began in 1999, and it is the first double-digit seed to reach the Final Four since 2018. It is only the second time in program history that Tennessee ( 22-7) went to the Final Four.

“I’m so incredibly happy and proud,” said Tennessee coach Alison Ojeda. “We’ve said all year long that there’s just something really special about this group. Not only are they good, but they have a togetherness that allows them to take each other’s performances to the next level. That’s what you’re seeing tonight from start to finish.” I couldn’t be happier for these guys.”

Tennessee advances to the semifinals, where it will face No. 13 seed Texas A&M on Saturday (7:30 p.m. ET).

Friday’s win was the first in program history against UCLA and lifted the Lady Vols to 22 wins, their most in a season under Ojeda. The last time Tennessee was in the Final Four, Ojeda was a senior on the team.

Tennessee dropped the doubles point to the Bruins, with Lauren Anzalotta and Catherine Aulia being the only pair to earn a victory. But then the Lady Vols posted four singles wins to win the match, the last point a dramatic finish for Sofia Cabezas.

Alana Wolfberg was the first to win in singles, 6-0 and 6-3. Elza Tomase followed with a win in three sets (6-2, 1-6, 7-5). Catherine Aulia also won in three sets (4-6, 6-0, 6-3), and she won 12 of her last 15 games after losing the first set.

Cabezas won a three-set match to secure the victory. She lost the first set 4-6, but then recovered to defeat Tian Fangram, the reigning NCAA singles champion. Cabezas won the second two sets 7-6(4) and 6-3.

“I’m just so proud of my team,” Cabezas said. “I won the last point, but this was a team effort. I did it for them. I love playing for them. This is huge. I love the team effort. It’s special. I just want to keep playing longer. wants to keep playing and having fun. I can’t wait to compete again tomorrow (Saturday).”
